THE BODY IN SPRING + THE EDGE OF EMERGENCE — NEW MOON IN ARIES

Cornus florida (Flowering Dogwood)

Springtime is in full swing here in Southern Oregon. The buds are unfurling. The pollinators are active, the birds and other critters are making their presence known. The ecosystem is alive.

It’s a beautiful thing to witness. To breathe in the oxygen from the emergence of new plant life, and to breathe right back into them. To be a part of this exchange of energy. I find myself in a state of deep reverence for the natural world right now, after three weeks of settling into this season of my life: community living, herbal farming, and all things plant medicine.

Neat rows of purple lavender crops extend across a field, leading toward a snow-covered mountain beneath a bright blue sky.

I’m writing this on day 10 of my cycle - the follicular phase. The time after menstruation when the body begins to reawaken after a grounding, winter-like release.

We tend to romanticize both spring and the follicular phase as light, energized, and clear. But what I experience in my body is something quite different. For me, this phase feels raw, exposed, and activating. Perhaps this is due, in part, to the absence of progesterone - the warming, calming hormone that peaks just before menstruation. In the follicular phase, estrogen is at its lowest point and begins its steady ascent. Like sap rising in the trees, a dormant energy begins to move. As hormones rise, especially estrogen, it can feel like energy returning to the body, but not yet grounded. There is sensitivity, openness, a kind of alertness without clarity.

In my own experience, this can look like scattered energy, chaotic thinking, and an overall sense of ungroundedness. It can feel destabilizing after the inward pull of menstruation - the quiet, reflectivewinter within. To move from tenderness and slowness into outwardexpression isn’t always seamless. It can show up as irritability, anxiety, a sense of being in between. Instinct returns before certainty does. And this is where the mirror of the season, and the sky, becomes so potent.

Just as energy rises in nature after winter, this New Moon in Aries carries a similar current: instinctual, primal, and forward-moving. Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is associated with birth, emergence, and the formation of identity. It is the spark of life itself.

But Aries doesn’t wait for clarity before it acts. This can feel exciting, invigorating… or it can feel impulsive, edgy, even destabilizing when we’re not fully rooted. This energy isn’t something to suppress, but it is something to work with intentionally. We cannot stop the energy from rising. But we can choose where it goes, how it’s expressed, and what it serves.

This New Moon in Aries marks a point of emergence. In the body, in the season, in the larger rhythms of life. Seeds are being planted, whether or not you can yet see what they will become. This is the energy of initiation, of walking paths you’ve never walked before, of making decisions rooted not in certainty, but in courage and self-trust. This is a time to reconnect with your instincts, your desires. The subtle (or not so subtle) signals your body is sending you about what it wants to create, to experience, to become.

What is rising within you right now, and how do you want to work with it?

NOURISHMENT THIS SEASON

A simple table setting with plates gathered around two central dishes, accented by small vases of greenery bringing life to the scene.

EATING SO WELL

Nourishment right now looks like being cooked for, and getting to cook and serve the community of women I’m living with. One night I made a Thai coconut curry - carrots, potatoes, onions, fresh ginger, cilantro, coconut milk, curry paste, salt, and chicken thighs over white rice. Topped with the most vibrant garnish a sister harvested from the land: calendula petals, wildcrafted mint, and fresh green onions from the garden.

MEDICINE MAKING

I harvested fresh Pedicularis densiflora, a plant native to Oregon and California, often used to support pain and tension in the body, especially in the neck, shoulders, and head. I prepared a tincture that will be ready in 4–6 weeks - an act of patience, of tending something that will give back in time.

I also created care packages for loved ones, filled with medicines I’ve been crafting and collecting, along with handwritten cards - an unexpected doorway into practicing calligraphy, another form of presence and creative expression that nourishes my soul.

BODYWORK

Nourishment has looked like receiving bodywork when my system asked for it. After a severe migraine, I received an impromptu session that became one of the most profound I’ve experienced. Craniosacral therapy, reiki, and gentle massage wove together to release deep physical tension, while also opening space for emotional processing and expansion. A reminder that sometimes nourishment is allowing ourselves to be held in our healing. If you’re ever in the Grants Pass–Medford area, I highly recommend seeking out this practice to receive his work.

SACRED SISTERHOOD

My cup feels full from being in a space where I can soften, open, and be fully in my expression - without judgment, with deep acceptance, and with so much shared wisdom. That kind of connection feeds something far beyond the physical body. It’s amazing how the heart expands when it’s met with tenderness, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by 7 amazing women who are able to hold each other in their fullness <3

Everything I’m moving through in this season continues to affirm my path as a holistic health practitioner, and I feel deeply honored to be in service through this work.

If you feel called, I’d love to support you - through nutrition, lifestyle guidance, or herbal consultation. You’re welcome to reach out with questions, curiosity, or simply to connect. Thank you for being here.
